COLAC BAY NOTES

(From Our Correspondent.) On Friday and Saturday 15 degrees of frost were registered at Colac. These were the hardest frosts experienced in this locality for a number of years. Feed is becoming a little scarce now, but good supplies of turnips, mangolds, chou moellier and hay will see the cattle through the winter months. Several dances and entertainments have been held lately for various purposes. Oh Tuesday the Girl Guides held a successful concert and dance and were rewarded with a full house. Messrs Beadle and Shaw supplied the dance music and Miss H. Harrison accompanied the singers. A feature of the programme was the “Canoe Poi” by Mrs Belsham’s party. The Farmers’ Union meeting on Thursday was well attended and some very interesting discussions on many topics of importance to the farming community took place. On the eve of her approaching marriage Miss C. Wadsworth was tendered a kitchen evening by the residents of Colac and surrounding districts on Friday night. The evening was spent in games and dancing and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The | chairman, Mr Williams, spoke in eulogistic terms of Miss Wadsworth and on behalf of the residents wished her every happiness. Miss Wadsworth made an appropriate reply. Good work is being done by those engaged under the native farm scheme at both Colac and Wakapatu. About 50 men will thus be kept in employment throughout the winter. Mr A. Dryden left for Rarotonga on Sunday.
