WINTON

Miss G. Griffiths, Invercargill, spent fhe week-end with Miss I. Gilmour. Major and Mrs Beer, Dunedin, are spending a few days with Mr and Mrs W. Hors burgh, Park street. Mr C. Mercer, Tapanui, has been a recent guest of his brother, Mr J. A. Mercer. Mr J. Noble has recovered from his recent illness. On Friday evening a Winton party travelled to Lumsden and gave a concert in aid of the Lumsden Library Fund. The programme was well received. The party included : Misses M. M.elton, N. Day, Messrs G. Lindsay, N. Eastlake, H... Perrelle, L. Perrelle, F. Tilley and W. Egerton. The weekly cabaret in Hamilton’s Hall was continued on Saturday evening, when there was a large attendance. McDonald’s Orchestra supplied the music. On Wednesday evening the Browns Tennis Club held their annual ball in the Browns Hall. The hall was packed to capacity and an enjoyable time was spent dancing to the strains of delightful music from the Ambassadors’ Dance Band. A large crowd attended the weekly euchre tourney of the Winton Beautifying Society in the Masonic -Hall on Monday evening last. The successful players were: Ladies, Mrs W. G. Clark; men. Mr C. Hughes. The weekly euchre tournament of the Social Committee of the Winton Anglican Church was continued in the Masonic Hall on Friday evening. There was a good attendance, with the ladies’ prize going to Mrs H. Liddell and the men’s to Mr F. Anderson.
