RIFLE SHOOTING

THE GORE CLUB. SEASON COMPLETED. The members of the Gore Defence Rifle Club completed, their shooting season last week, and the following are the results of the various competitions: The John McCartney Trophy. The members competed for a trophy presented by Mr John McCartney, the conditions being 10 shots and two sighters at 300 and 600 yards. This trophy was won by Rifleman Tom Middlemiss, a young shot who improved wonderfully as the season was drawing to a close. The following were

The conditions of this trophy were that two shoots (handicap) be fired at 300 and 500, 500 and 600 and 300 and 600 yards (10 shots and two sighters at each distance), the highest shoot at each of these combined distances to count with a final shoot of seven shots at 300, 500 and 600 yards. Ex-Champion Rifleman’s Trophy. A valuable trophy was presented to the club by an ex-champion rifleman for the highest ebnsistent shot during the 1930-31 season. Competitors had to fire two-thirds or more of the trophy shooting. This event was won by President J. Mathews with an

average of 87 11.15 points per match, the averages of the other competitors beig: Rifleman W. Milne 87 1.5, Rifleman H. McCorkindale 84 1.11, Vice-President S. Preece 84, PJfleman G. Bain 82 2.7, Rifleman C. M. Wilson 81 4.11, Rifleman W. Cunningham 79 4.13, Rifleman A. Hay 74 9.14, Rifleman G. Hay 74 7.15, Rifleman P. Hay 74, Rifleman S. Scott 72 11.12, Rifleman B. Cochrane 71 1.12, Rifleman D. Johnson 70. The highest scores were: —

Championship. This important event was won by Rifleman W. Milne, closely followed by President J. Mathews. A beautiful cup and a miniature cup were presented by the patron of the club (Mr R. B. Bannerman) for this competition, and the conditions are that the cup is to be won twice in succession or three times at intervals, the winner to retain the miniature cup each year; and that four shoots be fired at the 300 and 500, 500 and 600, and 300 and 600 yards (10 shots and two sighters at each distance). The three highest shoots at each of these combined distances were to count, with a final ohnnt of 15 shots at 500 yards. The following are
