CONCERT AT FERNDALE

SCHOOL FUNDS BENEFIT. As the result of a concert given in the Ferndale School on Friday evening by members of the Mataura Highland Society the library funds of the school will be substantially augumented. There was a very satisfactory attendance of the general public, which showed keen appreciation of the varied programme presented and every item was exceptionally well received. The entertainment took the form of vocal and instrumental numbers, those members of the Mataura Society contributing’being as follow: Part songs by the Glee Party, “Hail Smiling Morn” and “Blue Bonnets Over the Border”; Mr D. Russell, song, “Father O’Flynn” (encored) ; Mrs R. Hutton, song, "Hail Caledonia” (encored) ; Messrs A. J. Jones and Dave Russell, duet, “The Battle Eve”; Miss May McKinnon, song, “The Laird O’ Cockpen”; Mr Ewen Cameron, song, “Johnnie Cope”; Mr and Mrs -A. N. Mac Gibbon, duet, “Life’s Long Dream is O’er”; part songs by the Glee Party; “Let the Hills Resound” and “Wha Wadna Focht for Charlie”; Mrs A. N. Mac Gibbon, song, “Flight of Ages” (encored) ; Mr J. H. Sutherland, mouth organ solo (encored); Mr Dave Russell, song, "Muleteer of Malaga” (encored) ; Mrs Hubener and Mr A. J. Jones, duet, “Hunting Tower” (encored), Miss May McKinnon, song, “Stop Your Ticklin, Jock” (encored) ; Mr A. J. Jones, song, “The Battle of Stirling” (encored) ; Mrs Hubener, song, “O For the Bloom of Our Native Heath” (encored) ; part songs by the Glee Party, “De Ole Banjo” and “Good Night.” Mrs T. Cameron acted as accompaniste.

At the, conclusion of the entertainment, over which Mr T. Blatch presided, the visitors were accorded a very hearty vote of thanks and the evening terminated with the singing of “Auld Lang Syiie” and the National Anthem, ,
