WYNDHAM NEWS

(From Our Correspondent.) The annual meeting of the Wyndham Girls’ Hockey Club was held in the Athenaeum on Monday evening, Mr C. E. Davey (vice-president) presiding in the unavoidable absence of Dr J. H. Baird (president). The balance sheet showed a credit balance of £4l 14/2. The report stated that the season had been quite successful but owing to a number of the A grade players having left the district the club could only field a B grade team, members of which had acquitted themselves creditably. In July the team had competed in a consolation seven-a-side tournament at Fortrose and had been successful in annexing the trophies. The club congratulated the Eastern District ladies’ team on drawing with Wellington for the coveted K Cup. Mr C. E. Davey in moving the adoption of the balance-sheet said that the finances of the club had decreased between £l3 and £l4, but the position was not as serious as it looked. The decrease had been caused by the club donating £5 towards a presentation to their late secretary, and a debit balance that had to be met on the club's annual ball of £4 8/4. Further the club had organized no euchre party during the year. There had also been no gate money receipt. Nevertheless the financial position was sound and given anything like a good season he felt that the club would keep abreast of its present position. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following officers were elected: President, Dr J. H. Baird (re-elected for the 24th year); vice-presidents, Messrs C. E. Davey, E. J. Traynor, D. Crawford, W. J. Marsh, Mrs D. Hopkins; secretary, Miss Grace Hallman; captain, Miss V. ■ Heaps; deputy-captain, Miss Lily Macguire; coach, Mrs H. E. Porter; match committee, Mrs H. E. Porter, Misses V. Heaps and L. Macguire; postponement committee and delegate to the Eastern District Union, Misses G. Hallman, V. Heaps; auditor, Mr C. E. Davey; general committee, Misses E. Ross, A. Strang, V. Heaps, E. McDohald, G. Hallman and L. Macguire. It was unanimously resolved that the subscriptions for the incoming season be 2/6 and that the opening day be Wednesday, May 6. It was decided that an A grade team be entered in the competitions and that the secretary communicate with the Town Board for permission to use the grounds and to charge for- three matches. The weekly meeting of the Wyndham Miniature Rifle Club was held in the Town Hall, Wyndham, on Monday evening when there was a large attendance present.
