PARLIAMENT

SECOND FINANCE BILL

.INTENTIONS OF PRIME MINISTER TAXATION PROPOSALS (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, April 6. Although the Prime Minister’s estimated life of the present session of Parliament has already been exceeded, there appears to be no prospect of a rest from legislative labours for some weeks yet, several new measures being on the stocks. It is now revealed that the Prime Minister intends to bring down a second Finance Bill carrying his economy campaign a step further than the measure providing for wage reductions and a variation of Arbitration Court awards. This comes as something of a surprise in Parliamentary circles, for the Bill will contain proposals 'arising directly out of the recommendations of the Economy Committee which has been sitting since shortly after the close of last session. The Prime Minister has also indicated that he will put through his taxation proposals this session. With this end in view Bills for raising an extra £BOO,OOO will come down in the near future. There are rumours of amendments to the Unemployment Act, but while it is believed there may be an increase in the unemployment, levy, nothing definite has been said about amendments.
