On Wednesday evening, February IS, in the Oddfellows’ Hall a light banquet was tendered to Mr William Blay prior to his departure for Edendale. Mr Blay has been for some considerable time on the railway station staff at Orcpuki. Mr F. Ericson presided and after the loyal toast was honoured, proposed the toast of the guest of the evening. He spoke Of Mr Blay’s many good qualities, and said that as stationmaster it was a pleasure to work with him. Mr Blay always tried to give of his best to his superior officers and also to the general public. Mr Blay always took a keen interest in all matters pertaining to the welfare of the district. He was sorry Mr Blay was going away, but he wished Mr and Mrs Blay every success at Edendale. Messrs E. D. Bone, T. D. Suddaby, G. Amos, E. Purdue and G. Popenhagen endorsed the chairman’s remarks. Mr Erecson then asked Mr Blay to accept from the railway staff and the Star of the West Lodge a travelling rug, fountain pen, and a lady’s companion for Mrs Blay. Mr Blay thanked them sincerely for the gifts to Mrs Blay and himself. He said he appreciated the kind remarks and gifts very A number of toasts were honoured and the following contributed items during the evening Messrs J. Popham, J. McKenzie, W’. Blay, A. J. Bone, D. Smith, A. Cuttriss, W. Guilford, F. Ericson and T. D. Suddaby.
