MARUIA SPRINGS
GREAT CURATIVE PROPERTIES. VISITOR'S GLOWING ACCOUNT. (Per United Press Association.) Westport, January 7. Mr Buller, a resident who has just returned from the Maruia mineral springs, gives a glowing account of their curative properties. He, himself, suffered from rheumatism but has got rid of the complaint. While he was there a lady suffering from rheumatism came to see what benefit she could derive and she not only got rid of her rheumatism but also of goitre. When she was there two hundred people came to the springs but there is no attendant.
There are six baths for men and five for ladies but as there is no notice outside to distinguish one from the other embarrassing situations sometimes arise. The Buller resident urges that an attendant be placed in charge of the baths to see that they are kept clean; also with powers to protect bird life in the vicinity of the springs as many youths came there with pea rifles and destroyed the native birds and the beautiful New Zealand parrots which are now very’ rare. The protection of the prettybush there which is being destroyed by campers is also urged as it adds to thebeauty of the surroundings -and also affords shelter for campers.
