OHAI NOTES
(From Our Correspondent.) The weather has again inproved and summer days are being experienced. A meeting of the Ohai Scout Troop Committee was held on Wednesday evening, the following members being present: —■ Messrs .1. W. Martin (chairman), G. S. Langford, J. T. Mosely. A. E. Potter, C. Balneavcs, W. Welsh, and J. Dodds (secretary). The chairman thanked the committee for its help in the recent swearingin ceremony, especially the lady workers for their splendid services on that particular evening. He also extended a hearty welcome to Mr Welsh, who had taken up the duties of cubmaster, and wished to thank him for his keen interest, and trusted a Cub Pack would be duly initiated under his control at an early date. In the scoutmaster’s report, the question of suitable camping equipment was mentioned, and it was resolved that the secretary write for a quotation regarding two i x 10 tents complete for this purpose. It was resolved to procure 26 brass tenderfoot badges. The following appointments were approved: Lady workers’ committee, Mrs Haggarty (Birchwood); troop chaplain, the'Rev. V. R. Jamieson' (Nightcaps) ; cubmaster, Mr W. Welsh. The secretary’s action in purchasing a book entitled “The Wolf Cub Handbook” was approved. A farewell evening in honour of Mr J. G. Curran was given by the members of the Ohai Tennis Club on Wednesday evening at the home of Mr and Mrs G. W. Martin. Games and competitions were indulged in throughout the evening and songs, which were much a-Teciated, were given by Mrs R. Bird and Miss Margaret Wilson. Mr J. Vickers presented Mr Curran with a silver cigarette case and stated that the club was lasing a valuable member. Mr Curran suitably replied. An old timers’ ball was held at Ohai on Friday, December 5. The hall was beautifully decorated with brightly coloured streamers and music was supplied by Mr Barnsfield’s orchestra, of Wairio. Mr Croft and Miss Couchrnan were winners of the spot waltz competition, and Mrs H. Kitto was awarded the prize for the best old time costume. Mr Guttery was M.C. Those present included:—Mr and Mrs W.
