WORK FOR 30 MEX
HIGH SCHOOL IMPROVEMENTS. Thirty of the 62 returned soldiers who were paid off on ■ Thursday evening will commence work on the Boys’ High School grounds in Herbert street to-day. The men to be employed on the work, which will consist iu the main of levelling the surface of the sports areas, are mostly those who have had some experience on similar city works. As tho result of the Unemployment Board sanctioning the subsidy of £2 for £l, this work has been made available, and in order that no time should be lost before Christmas, the city engineer (Mr F. M. Corkill), the Education Board’s architect (Mr J. Gough) and the High School’s Board co-operated to put the work in hand at once. The engineer has undertaken to place at the disposal of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, the necessary tools and equipment for the men, while the Education Board staff attended to the marking and pegging of the playing areas to be levelled.
