ANZAC ESSAY

THIS YEAR’S COMPETITION. RIVERTON WINS BANNER. Seven country schools entered this year for the R.S.A. Anzac Essay Competition, and four schools competed for the R.S.A. Banner. The subject of the essay was “Richard Travis, V.C.” The banner was won by the Riverton School, which, had the greatest aggregate of points from essay? in Standards 4, 5 and 6. In regard to the standard prizes for Std. 4, Riverton and Ohai Schools were equal; for Std. 5 Riverton School was first; and for Std. 6 Riverton and Otautau were equal. Good essays were also sent in from Limehills, Tuatapere, Winton and Nightcaps. In many cases the examiner had great difficulty in coming~to a decision. Following are the prize-winners: Southland Boys’ High School: E. P. Blampied. Southland Girls’ High School: Margaret A, Pollok and Winnie McQuilkan (equal). North Invercargill School: Std. 4—Mavis Gregory. Std. 5. —Vera Doogin. Std. G.—■ Donald Kennedy. Middle School: Std. 4.—Ray Stewart. Std. 5.—W. Pennington. Std. 6. —L. Harper.
