THE YACHT CLUBS.
To the Editor. Sir,—l wish to draw ’’our attention to an error appearing in the Southland Times of December 11 to hand this morning, under the heading . Sanders Cup: "Despite efforts to form a Southland' Yacht Association the Stewart Island Yacht Club had refused to be a party to such action.” At no time has the Invercargill Boating Club approached my club with this object in view and even if it had it would have been impossible as according to the rulings of the Dominion Conference three clubs are necessary before an association can be formed. Recognizing that we were the recognized yacht . club of Southland, we entered a challenge on behalf of Southland through our club, and my first letter to the Invercargill Boating' Club under date of loth inst advised their members of our action and also the dates of the trials for selection of Southland boat, extending to the Invercargill Club a hearty invitation to enter for these trials. We do not wish to enter into any newspaper controversy, but just desire that the error be corrected so that the public of Southland, who have so loyally in the past supported the Southland challenger, may not gain a wrong impression.—l am, etc., A. E. FARRANT, Hon. Sec. Stewart Island Yacht Club. December 17, 1930.
