CYCLING

ROAD RACE AT DRUMMOND. AN EXCITING FINISH. The first official cycle race held under the auspices of the Drummond Cycle Cluo took place last evening. An eight-mile road race was held under favourable weather conditions. There was a very large attendance. Eighteen of the 19 nominated started with riders from all parts of the district. The result was as follows: — W. Chilton (Drummond) 3min .. .. 1 R. Blue (Invercargill) 3min 2 D. Dawson (Invercargill) 3min .. .. 3 The trophies were to the value of 25/for first, 15/- for second and 10/- for third. Tinies: Chilton 24min 35sec; Blue 24min 35 l-ssec; Dawson 24min 35 3-ssec. ' Fastest time was gained by A. Chilton (scr), 23min 50sec, with Booth only 1-5 sec slower.
