SPORTS GATHERING

FIRST WOMEN’S FIXTURE.

MEETING AT HAWERA. (Per United Press Association.) Hawera, December 17. What is claimed as New Zealand’s first women’s sports gathering, providing competition in the recognized field as well as track events, was held by the Hawera Ladies’ Amateur Athletic Club last evening. Competitors attended from an area between New Plymouth and Hawera, though the numbers and the standard of performances were affected adversely by the cold rain squalls. Regulation women’s weight implements were used for the javelin, discus throw and for putting the shot. The winning actual performances of the principal field events are as follows:— Javelin, Miss P. Bollond (Hawera) 92ft Din; discus, Miss B. Stevens (Hawera), 61ft Idin; putting the shot, Miss B. Stevens, 24ft; hop, step and jump, Miss N. Rowlands (Eltham), 30ft sins.
