WOOL MARKET
WELLINGTON SALE NO IMPROVEMENT IN PRICES BUYING MORE GENERAL (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, December 8. There was no improvement in the prices at to-day's wool sale which was marked by heavy late withdrawals and frequent passings. There was animated competition within very restricted limits. Attractive lines were keenly sought but, the price was usually between 4}d and 6d. Very seldom was there much bidding above 7d. The highest price was for a few lots of Merino, eight bales of A Merino selling at lOd while eleven bales of super comebacks made lOjci. Other Marlborough lines of similar descriptions made 91d. These wools, which were superfine, were purchased by local mills. The quantity catalogued was 18,040 bales but withdrawals reduced this to about 16,500 bales. The quality was below the average, showing signs of an unfavourable winter. Buying was more general than at earlier sales. Bradford and Canada were the principal buyers, some buying was done by Japan and it is said that some wool was taken on behalf of Russia. The official range of prices as compared with the closing rates of last season (April sale) is as follows:
