MAN SHOT IN ABDOMEN. RESULT OF BRAWL ON PUNT. (United Press Assn. —By Telegraph—Copyright) Sydney, December 1. Charles Evans, aged 28, was shot in the abdomen by the captain of a Hawkesbury driver-vehicle punt during a brawl on the vessel. Evans is on the point of death. He and five companions refused to pay the fees on the punt, and after a wordy warfare a fierce fight commenced, the men attacking a deck hand who was flung to the deck, kicked and punched. The captain, seeing the deck hand being unmercifully battered, fired two shots over the men’s heads. As this had no effect a third shot was fired and Evans fell. He was rushed to hospital, bleeding profusely. The other five men have been charged with assault.
