HELD BY BANDITS
TWO MISSIONARIES IN CHINA.
(United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.)
Shanghai, November 29,
A message from Sarasti states that Mrs H. D. Hayward, an American, and Miss Egomersal, a British nurse, left Vim station, in Lanchow, at the end of October for Pekin. Mrs Hayward, who was critically ill, was seeking a surgical operation. Last week, when they were travelling on rafts 20 miles from Patoachen, bandits captured, robbed, and stripped them of their clothing. The women are still in captivity. The weather is bitterly cold. Other missionaries are attempting to rescue them. A relief party, which will leave Pekin to-morrow, includes Captain Staples, of the British Navy.
