WINTON NOTES

ATHLETIC SOCIETY.

(From Our Correspondent.)

A meeting of the committee of the Winton Athletic Society was held on Friday evening, the president, Mr W. Hewitt, presiding over an attendance of 14 members. The proposed programme was presented, and adopted. It showed that £Bl would be given in prize money. The Winton delegate to the Southland Centre, Mr H. Earl, reported that January 7 had been alloted the Winton Society as the date of its annual fixture, while it also had been decided to hold the next annual meeting of the centre at Winton. Mr H. Earl suggested that some understanding should be made between ali societies in Southland, with regards the refund of moneys to competitors. He stated that some societies refunded moneys to competitors while other clubs did not, and he was of the opinion that a remit be forwarded to the next annual meeting of the centre.

It was decided to charge a fee of £2 2/for side show rights. Mr S. Hagerty mentioned that £55 had been spent on the recreation reserve for improvements and only £5 of this amount had been contributed by the Athletic Society. He asked if the society intended carrying out any improvements and- suggested that an effort be made to raise funds for the erection of netting round the ring- ./ / Mr H. Earl suggested that the council be approached for a grant. The president advised that at present the society had no funds but he hoped that these improvements would be carried out after the annual fixture.
