FIRES

HOUSE DESTROYED. (Per United Press Ar-sociation.) z Ashburton, October 17. A six-roomed house in the suburb of Allenton, owned by Allen Brothers, was destroyed by fire early this morning. Two couples, relatives of the owners and two children with a visitor, occupied the house at the. time. Practically all the contents were lost. HOMESTEAD BURNT DOWN. Christchurch, October 17. A picturesque Teviotdale homestead near Amberley, owned by Mr G. D. Greenwood, was destroyed by fire yesterday evening. Valuable furniture was lost, but all the racing cups were saved. The residence was an old single-storey building with a portion built in 18G7 when the run was purchased. It is understood that both Mr G. D. Greenwood and his son were in the house when the fire started and had narrow escapes.
