SECONDARY SCHOOL JUNIOR GRADE. TECHNICAL COLLEGE A WINNERS OF CUP. At a meeting held last week it was decided that the four leading teams in the secondary school junior grade competition play off, other matches to be abandoned. The teams remaining comprised Technical College A, High School A, St. Catherine's and High School B. The results were as follows: Technical College A (4) v. High School B (3); High School A (15) v. St. Catherine’s (7); Technical College A (16) v. High School A (3). The following table shows the position of the teams:—
Notes on the Teams. Technical College A: The winning team possess good combination, and makes full use of their nine players. Their passing is quick and they handle the ball well. Good work is done by the main defence, M. Huffadine, while W. Sadlier is a splendid shoot, very reliable and accurate. She is responsible for most of the goals, some of which are secured from most difficult positions. This team are to be congratulated on their good record. High School A: This team proved to be runners-up. Compared with Technical College, the combination is not so good, although much improvement was shown in the second half in the match against Technical College A. The centres and defences do good work, notably J. Kelly (centre), but the forwards are not reliable, their shooting, on the whole, being inaccurate. R. Bridgman (defence) does good intercepting work. St. Catherine's: This team possess some promising players. In the match against High School A the Convent team put up a good defence. Their combination, however, is not good, while some of the players simply heaved the ball froffi one end of the court to the other. The short, quick pass would be more effective, and produce a better game. High School B: In some respects a better team than High School A. They should furnish some good players for next season. Their passing is good and all players are quick and active.’ The forwards do good work, especially M. Baty, a keen player, who uses her head. The score, 4-3, in the match, Technical College A v. High B, speaks for itself.
