COMPETITIONS
DUNEDIN FESTIVAL OPENS. INVERCARGILL DANCER SUCCESSFUL. (Special to the Times.) Dunedin, September 25. The twenty-ninth annual festival of the Dunedin Competitions Society was opened to-night in His Majesty’s Theatre and although hard times have restricted the activities of the society to some extent, it was nevertheless able to present a very attractive programme for the opening night. There is a good entry of competitors from the city and province as well as from Southland and Canterbury. In the ballet dance, to 10 and under 13 years, the placings to-night were as follows: Miss Joyce Todd, Caversham, 88 points 1; Miss Lola Hoffman, Invercargill, 55 points 2; Miss Molly Wills, Invercargill and Miss Muriel Brown, Dunedin, 50 points equal 3. The judge, Mrs Huhne, of Christchurch, said that Miss Todd was one of the most beautiful dancers she had ever seen. Miss Hoffman had the makings of a very fine dancer. She was quite a little actress and was strong on points. She did not have a very good dance and was worthy of better work as she had the necessary qualifications for success. Miss Wills and Miss Brown both showed promise, but needed much more practice. .
