Mr Vincent Ward, M.P., will arrive la Invercargill by to-morrow evening's express and will remain here until Tuesday. A Wellington Press Association telegram states that it was announced t in the Gazette last night that the following have been appointed to the Medical Council under the Medical Practitioners Act 1914: William Irving, William Newlands and William Henry Parkes. At the meeting of the council of the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce yesterday Messrs D. J. Wesney, D. Rutledge and J. Gilkison were appointed the representatives of the chamber at the annual conference of the New Zealand Associated Chambers of Commerce to be held at Mount Cook on October 22, 23 and 24. At the monthly meeting of the Bluff Har, bour Board yesterday, the chairman (Mr W. B. Dixon) referred to the death of Mr C. Goomes which had occurred since tho previous meeting. Mr Goomes had been an employee of the board for 24 years and had been one of the best workmen in tho pilot service. On the motion of the chairman a vote of condolence and sympathy with Mr Goomes's family was carried in the customary manner.
