HEDGEHOPE NOTES

The annual meeting of the Hedgehope Tennis Club was held in the hall on. Monday, September 15, Mrs Leebody (vice-presi-dent) presiding. The annual report and balance-sheet were adopted. The club, though not large, has this year a credit balance of £7 4/5. During the year several interclub matches were held and created more interest than would have otherwise been shown. The following officers were elected:—Patron, the Hon. P. A. de la Perrelle; president, Air T. Hanning; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames Leebody, Young and Potts and Mr McCosh; committee. Messis Brown, Leebody, Hanning, Hetherington, Messrs Diamond, South and Young; secretary and treasurer, Miss Stephens. The suoscriptions was fixed at 5/- if phid before the end of November. A letter was read from the Lower Central Association inviting delegates to a meeting at Grove Bush on September 29 if Hedgehope were in favour of joining in with them in forriling a union. It was decided that Hedgehope would join and Misses Brown and Stephens were appointed delegates. The last of the euchre parties conducted by the School Committee was held on Wednesday evening, the 17th inst. There was a fair attendance and after some keenly contested games Miss M. South won the ladies’ prize and Messrs Amos and West tied for the men’s. A play-off went in favour of Mr West. Football and basketball teams from Winton journeyed to Hedgehope on Friday to play a match with a combined team from Hedgehope and Glencoe. The teacher in charge, Mr J. D. Cameron, showed his good sportsmanship by letting two senior scholars play in the latter team, and a good game resulted, the result being 16-12 in favour of the combined team. Mr A. Watson acted as referee. The basketball match was controlled by Miss Smith and resulted in a win for the Winton girls.by 8 points to nil.
