NIGHTCAPS NOTES

(From Our Correspondent.) Eight players from the local golf club made the journey to Otautau on Saturday to play a friendly match. The weather was good and the greens were in excellent order. Two of the Otautau members played for Nightcaps, and the match ended in a draw, four games each, with two all square. At the conclusion the president of the Otautau club thanked the visitors for providing them with such an enjoyable game, and trusted many more would be played between the two clubs. Mr Edmond, in responding, assured the Otautau players that the members of his club had thoroughly enjoyed themselves. He suggested that next year they should make an earlier start. Following were the scores, Otautau names being mentioned first:—Miles lost to Edmond, 2 down; F. L. Smith and J. Johnstone, all square; Fisher lost to Barr, 1 down; Dr. Reekie beat Erasmussen, 5 and 4; H. Smyth lost to Coehrane, 5 down; Whittlestone beat Stevens, 5 and 4; J. Smith beat Cook, 6 and 5; Harrington and Bird all square; Booth lost to Carmody, o down; McCulloch beat Henderson, 2 and 1. The match ’for the Boyle Shield was played at Nightcaps on Saturday between Western Star (winners), and Ohai (runnersup), resulting in a win for the former by 8 points to nil. Mr F. Prendeville acted as referee.

The following were returned as commissioners for a term of two years: Messrs J. C. Wilson, W. Excel!, F. Boyle, E. Mason, E. Cosgriff, A. V. Prendcville and T. Thomson. Keen interest was taken in the election, and three of the standing members were defeated, namely Messrs A. Y. Cook, A. R. Malcolm and J. Hamilton. There was a good attendance of bandsmen at the annual meeting, but only a few of the public put in an appearance. In the absence of the president, Mr D. Sinclair officiated as chairman. The balancesheet was presented showing a credit-balance of £Bl, the principal receipts being those from garden parties and the bazaar, and the expenditure for the purchase of uniforms and the bandmaster’s salary. Gratification was expressed at the excellent financial position, and the secretary, Mr Nimmo, was accorded a hearty vote of a[>preciation for the efficient manner in which he had carried out his duties. Last year’s officers and committee were re-elected, and were authorized to draw up an itinerary of dates for public performances. At a subsequent meeting it was decided that the band give a public programme locally on the first Sunday of every month, and visit the surrounding centres in rotation on the third Sunday, when the following places will bo visited: Ohai, Wairio, Tuatapere, Riverton Hospital, Otautau, Opio and Wreys Bush. It was decided to hold a social on Friday, October 10.
