RAILWAY EMPLOYEE ACCIDENT IN WYNDHAM YARDS MARRIED MAN’S DEATH As the result of a distressing accident at Wyndham yesterday, Thomas Miles, aged 34, a married man with three children and employed as a porter by the New Zealand Railways, suffered grave injuries which resulted in his death late last night. While engaged in shunting operations on the mid-day* train from Edendale he slipped and the engine passed over his legs. He received severe injuries to both members and was speedily conveyed to Invercargill on the mid-day express. The ambulance met the train at the station and the injured man was taken to the Southland Hospital. On admission it was found that both legs were severely crushed, and the patient was suffering badly from shock. An operation for the amputation of both legs was performed last evening and a slight improvement in the patient’s condition was reported, but he died at 11.20.
