OTAUTAU NOTES

(From Our Correspondent.) Some god rounds were played in the qualifying rounds of hte gold championships, the best being 41 by F. L. Smith. D. Roberts, with 125, won the small trophy for the best score over .36 holes, hollowing were the other scores: C. R. West 134, A. Ferguson 142, A. Fisher 144, Dr Reekie and A. E. Bird 145, C. T. Whittlestone and C. Renowden 148, which is bogey score. Miss Porteous won the ladies’ trophy over 18 holes with 55 net. Miss T. Scatter was next with 59, Mrs Whittlestone" 68, Miss D O’Brien 70, Mrs Renowden 84, Miss Duncan 85. Bogey is 88. The Western District Bible Class Rally, held in the Sunday School hall on Friday evening, was attended by delegates from Isla Bank, Riverton, Nightcaps, Ohai, Tuatapere, Otautau, Pukemaori and Thornbury classes. Miss Kennedy, president of the district committee, occupied the chair. The Rev, T. E, Riddell, a missionary from the Indian field, gave an interesting address and lantern lecture. Nominations of officers were received for the incoming year, and these will be appointed at the annual meeting to be held at Tuatapere on Labour Day. A heart}’ vote of thanks was passed lo the lecturer. Fifty were present at the euchre social on Monday evening run by the ladies of the Catholic Church. Mrs Hudson (Tuata. pere) won the ladies’ prize with Mrs Fraser runner-up. Messrs T. 11. Walker, T. Sheridan and W. Anderson tied for the men’s prize, the former winning in the play-off. Mr 11, Rankin was runner-up. A contract has been let to Mr L. M. Thomson for the erection of a Plunket and Rest Room in the township. A commencement has been made with the work. The St. Andrew’s Girl Guides are holding a sports field day on the recreation ground on Saturday, when the Herbert Smith Trust Cup will be competed for. The tender of Mr Turner of £lBO was ac- . cepted at the council meeting on Friday for the erection of a oettage at Wrey’s Bush. -
