UNEMPLOYED SEAMEN

POSITION BEING RELIEVED. RECOMMISSIONING OF STEAMERS. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, September 18. Although there will still be many compelled to remain ashore the position in regard to the seamen and stewards thrown out of work by the wreck of the Tahiti and the laying up of a number of cargo vessels, will be somewhat relieved during the next few days when the Marama and the colliers, Kartigi and Kaimiro, are recommissioned. On the Marama besides the master, Captain Toten, will be two deck officers from the Tahiti and a number of the crew and stewards. The position will be further improved when the new Monowai enters the San Francisco service in November. In addition the directors of the Union Steam Ship Company have granted a bonus for distribution among the ship’s company of the Tahiti.
