NEW FLYING BOAT
BRITISH ENTERPRISE ACCOMMODATION FOR 40 PASSENGERS THREE POWERFUL ENGINES (British Official Wireless.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, September 17. The biggest British flying boat ever made is to be constructed at the Supermarine Works, Southampton. It will have three Rolls-Royce engines of 3,700 horsepower, extremely comfortable accommodation for 40 passengers, and a range of 1,000 miles, enabling it to make long journeys with only occasional descents for fuel. It will be a monoplane, and its huge wing, with a span of 140 ft, will be 6ft thick and will accommodate luggage and stores. Many new features are included in the design t>! the long hull of 100 ft. The pilots and engineers will have the upper deck with the navigation bridge to themselves above the passengers’ quarters, giving access to the wing and engines. The machine will be all metal and weigh, fully loaded, 33 tons. | •
