FLIGHT TO AUSTRALIA

MATTHEWS REPORTED AT BELGRADE. (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, September 17. Captain Matthews, who yesterday left Croydon on a solo flight to Australia, flew without a stop to Belgrade, at an average speed of 115 miles per hour, and is continuing to-day via Stamboul and Aleppo. A message from Sofia states that Captain Matthews has not yet arrived. It is reported that he landed at Belgrade last night and proposed going to Aleppo in the morning, but no definite confirmation of his arrival or departure from Belgrade has been received. DELAYED AT BELGRADE. (Rec. 7.30 p.m.) London, September 16. A message from Belgrade states that Captain Matthews has been detained there by bad weather.
