He went to Gore about 24 years ago, and af|er a period with the Department there he retired and went into business. The firm o£ Kerr and McLeod, auctioneers and stock and station agents, was formed, and it continued for some time. After a period Mr McLeod became interested in the firm of Cox and Co., butchers, and was looked upon as one of the best buyers of fat stock who frequented the sales. During this period he also carried on an agency business, and later, with Mr R. P. Neale, formed the firm of Neale and McLeod, land agents, etc., at Gore. He remained a member until his death.

During his residence at Gore Mr McLeod took a keen interest in many of its social activities. He was a prominent member of the Gore Highland Society, and was also an energetic member on the Gore Competitions Society in all its phases, and to Mr McLeod’s supervision was usually allotted the section set apart for Highland dancing. He also, in his younger days, took a keen interest in cricket, and in later years was a prominent member of the Gore Bowling Club. In all these activities he was a hard-working member. In private life the late Mr McLeod was a genial gentleman. He was ever ready to help a lieserving cause, and his kindly disposition made him many friends. The late Mr McLeod married about 30 years ago, and he leaves a widow, two sons and two daughters—viz., Donald and Douglas (Gore), Mrs McKee (Waikaia), and Miss Hazel (at College at Dunedin). The funeral will take place to-day. MR HAROLD CLEINE. There passed away at the Goto Public Hospital on Wednesday a highly esteemed young man in the person of Mr Harold Oleine, only son of Mr and Mrs W. Cleine, of Broughton street, after a short illness commencing on Friday. Mr Cleine, who was only 22 years of age, was educated at the Gore Public School, and later at the Gore High School. At both he exhibited no mean ability. Later he entered employment as a baker with Messrs Matheson and ‘Meldrum (now Matheson’s) where he was well-liked as a courteous and capable employee. In private life Mr Cleine displayed a quietness of taste, though enjoying popularity with a wide circle of acquaintances. He was a motor-cycling enthusiast, and was also a member of the juvenile Oddfellows, in which he was also interested; later he became one of the older members.
