PUBLIC SERVICE SALARIES.

To the Editor.. Sir,—ls it within your knowledge or privilege to state the amount of salaries paid in the public service from the lowest to the highest? Every ways and means have been attacked for the purpose of raising money, yet we have not heard of the high salaries of Government officials being reduced. The last unfair attack on the working class is, the unemployment, tax whereby, apparently, a man earning .£lOO per year will pay the same as the Government official and others whose income is £2OOO and more. Did not the members (75) of the House vote themselves another £lOO per annum as a first move before settling down to work? Surely it would be only fair that in addition to all other taxes there should be a salary cut on Public Service 'officials, say over £2OO 5 per cent, over £3OO 10 per cent., and so on by a 5 per cent, per £lOO increase right up to the top rung, then the struggling casually employed worker outside the “Service” would take his gruel with a little more relish and a real act of economy would be effected and huge sums would thus be available for other purposes. • —I am, etc., REAL ECONOMY. [We cannot give the sum asked for.— Ed. 5.T.]
