DEATH FROM POISONING. (Per United Press Association.) Whangarei, September 17. At 9.30 this morning Henri Germane, a farmer of Kopopo, aged about 50 years, was admitted to hospital suffering from the effects of poisoning. He received prompt treatment, but died at 10.30 o’clock. DEATH IN WAITING ROOM. Auckland. September 17. While he was waiting to consult Dr do Clive Lowe in the doctor’s rooms in Symonds street, Daniel Hannan, who had been residing in an apartment house at Vincent street, collapsed and died. The deceased, who was single, had no relatives in Auckland. After complaining for some time of pains in the chest the deceased went to the doctor’s rooms at about 2.35 p.m., but Dr de Clive Lowe was engaged with another patient. Hannan was shown into the waiting room where he was found dead about a quarter of an hour later. ELDERLY WOMAN’S DEATH. Auckland, September 17. While she was visiting friends in Onehunga Mrs Adeline Augusta Spencer, aged 68 years, collapsed and died. While she was playing bridge in the afternoon she stated that she did not feci well and rose to go outside the house for fresh air. Almost immediately she died. As the doctor who had been attending Mrs Spencer has given a certificate as to the cause of death no inquest will be necessary. DEATH UNDER ANAESTHETIC. Gisborne, September 17. The inquest opened this afternoon on a boy named Joseph Arthur Parker, aged 16 years, who died under anaesthetic at a •private hospital last night. The boy’s father gave evidence that the previous evening his son was at home playing with his sister. The girl was chased by her brother who ran along the hall and as she ran she slammed the hall door behind her. In attempting to stop himself the lad put his hand through the glass severing the ligaments. He was removed to a private hospital where an operation was performed, but the lad passed away under the anaesthetic. The lad enjoyed good health. The inquest was adjourned till September CHILD DROWNED IN STREAM. Christchurch, September 17. A child aged 3 years, Erica Ambridge, was found drowned in a stream at the 'back of her home in Puriri street, Riccarton, this evening. The child was missed at 5.30 p.m. and after a search was found an hour later in the stream. A doctor was called and tried artificial respiration in vain. FOUND DEAD IN PADDOCK. Ashburton, September 17. Thomas Power, a middle-aged fanner, was found dead in a paddock near his farm at Winchmore this morning. Details are lacking, but it is understood that Power took a shotgun when he went round his sheep at an early hour. Later he was found dead near a fence. FATAL COLLAPSE IN STREET. Dunedin, September 17. Margaret Elizabeth McKay, aged 64 years, a married woman, left to go shopping this morning and collapsed in the street, dying shortly after. She is supposed to have suffered from heart attack.
