SERIOUS DAMAGE
WEST INDIES HURRICANE. SIX DEATHS REPORTED. (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, September 16. The Governor of the Leeward Island has telegraphed to the Colonial Secretary, Lord Passfield, stating that an inspection after the recent hurricane showed that the damage done was undoubtedly serious, making considerable assistance imperative. Six deaths have been reported and many injured arc in the Roseau Hospital, and in the country districts half of the lime crop, 75 per cent, of the coconut crop, and the whole of the late cocoa crop were destroyed. The crisis justified the new [>olicy of grafting the lime trees, since nearly all withstood the hurricane. The food scarcity could be met by contributions received or promised. The total damage to public works was about £lO,OOO and to the peasants' hoti.tes several thousands more.
