Mr H. Chapman left for Dunedin on a brief business trip by the express yesterday. Mr William Grieve has accepted nomination for a seat on the Southland Education Board as the nominee of the Southland School Committees’ Association. A Wellington telegram states that Commander Morgan arrived by the Mataroa yesterday to take command of H.M.S. Veronica now at Auckland, relieving Commander Robertson, who returns Home by the Niagara. Lieutenant-Commander Grime also arrived and replaces Lieutenant-Com-mander Spencer on the Veronica. Captain Clinton Greig, 0.8. E., came to New Zealand recently on the Ruapehu. Before retiring a short time ago, he was Commissioner of Police and Sheriff at Gambia, farthest north ■of the British West African Colonies. Captain Greig, who .is an expert horseman and an enthusiastic fisherman, hopes to settle in the Dominion. The permanent bead of the Government Land Drafting Department (Mr J. Christie) left. Wellington on Monday for England, where it is understood that he will link up with the New Zealand delegation to the Imperial Conference and render legal assistance in connection with their work, states a Press Association message. The main object of the visit, however, arises out of the contract entered into by the Government with Messrs Butterworth, Ltd., for the publication of an annotated edition of the New Zealand Statutes. Mr Christie will confer in London with Butterworth's editorial staff.
