LUMSDEN NOTES

(From Our Correspondent.) The Lumsden Tennis Club conducted another successful euchre tournament on Thursday when there was a large attendance. lhe ladies’ prizes were donated by Mrs McDonald and were won by Miss M. Gerken and Mrs A. G. Small. The men’s prizes, which were donated by Mr G. Aitchcson, were won by Mr E. McDonald and 'Miss M. Reidy. Tho Lumsden Golf Club championship was decided on Saturday when the final was played between R. Scott and A. Earl. After a closely contested match Scott was successful in securing the honour at the last hole. The holder of the championship cup last year was J. A. Mangan. The ladies’ championship trophy will be held again this year by Miss A. Brotherston. Au Amateur Dramatic Society has been formed in Lumsden and it is hoped to stage a performance in the local theatre during the month of October. The producer is. Mr Nr Winmill, who is being assisted by a number of enthusiastic members. The Rev. G. F. Renwick left on Thursday for Woodlands. The services in the Presbyterian Church on Sunday were conducted by the Rev. J. Johnston, of Dipton. Mrs J. Isaacs and Miss Rona Isaacs, Dunedin, are spending a holiday in Lumsden as the guests of Mrs J. Marshall. Mr J. T. Martin, Wellington, spent the week-end with his mother at Lumsden and returned north on Monday. Mr and Mrs A. Cameron, “Nokamai,” have gone to Dunedin for a short holiday. Mr and Mrs J. Campbell, Mat aura Island, are the guests of Mrs James Campbell. Mr W. T. Heads, who has purchased a drapery business in Winton, has given up business in Lumsden and left, for Winton on Monday. He was accompanied by Misses G. and T. Heads. Prior to her departure for Winton Miss Heads was farewelled by a number of her hockey club mates and friends. Miss Maggie Sherriff, who has been selected for the Eastern A hockey team, is at present in Invercargill for the hockey tournament. Misses C. Reidy, M. Gerken and M. Small, who have been selected for the Eastern B team, are also, taking part in the tournament. ■Miss Owen, Dunedin, is spending a holiday with her parents at Lumsden. Mrs Thomson, Tapanui, is spending a few days with Mrs J. Clouston. Mrs J. McKinnell, Waikaia, is visiting friends in Lumsden.Miss M. Cameron, W’endonside, is the guest of Mrs A. G. Small. Mrs R. C. Soper has gone to 'Waikaia for the holidays.
