VISIT OF H.M.S. DUNEDIN

ARRIVAL AT BLUFF THIS MORNING. H.M.S. Dunedin is due to arrive at Bluff at 11 this morning. The chairman of the Bluff Harbour Board, Mr W. B. Dixon, the Mayor of Bluff, Dr J. Torrance, and the Mayor of Invercargill, Mr J. D. Campbell, will pay their official call at 1.30 p.m., and the Commodore will return the call to the chairman of the Harbour Board and the Mayor of Bluff at 2 p.m., and to the Mayor of Invercargill at the Town Hall at 3.30 p.m. Following the return call, the Commodore will be motored round the city, and will be entertained at dinner, afterwards proceeding to a ball being given by the Invercargill Golf Club to the Commodore and officers. This evening there will bo a dance at Bluff for the men.

To-morrow the Commodore and officers will be entertained at lunch by the Invercargill Rotary -Club, following which they will be taken for a motor drive to Riverton where they will be entertained at afternoon tea by the Mayor, Dr N. G. Trotter. Tomorrow morning the officers and men will parade through the city, and the ship’s band will be at the head. The Mayor will take the salute from the steps of the Town Hall. In the afternoon a team from the Dunedin will play the Southland junior representative team on the Biggar street reserve. In the evening a swimming carnival will be held in the baths.

On Saturday the Commodore and officers will be taken for a hare drive in the afternoon, and teams from the Dunedin will play a soceer match against the Invercargill Club and a Rugby match against the Borstal team on the showgrounds. On Sunday evening the ship’s band will give a concert at Bluff in aid-of the Bluff Sailors’ Rest. z

The ship will be open to visitors on Saturday and Sunday from 1.30 p.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
