A general meeting of the Rugby Football Club was held in the Public fiau on August 31, Air D. Cameron, pre-J.umg Over a lair attendance of memucis. Tne chairman commented upon vne satisiactory results of the installation of the electric lights on the playing ground lor tne purpose of carrying out practices in the evening. Various efforts had been successfully achieved lor defraying the expenses in connection with this undertaking and he wished to recu.d a vote of thanks to Messrs K. N. Murray, T. Fordyce, J. Moffitt, A. E. Potter an.i the ladies of the late Hockey Club for tne.r splendid co-operation. Tne motion was seconded by Mr J. Wilson and carried unanimously. The secretary (Air V. Robertshaw) stated that the Basketball Club had been granted the use of the fights for practice, lhe action of the secretary was approved, and it was decided that the Basketball Cluo be approached with a view to paying the cost ol the amount of light used on future occasions. Messrs R. Murray and A. E. Barnes, on behalf of the Ohai Domain Board, outlined the financial position of that body. They had been requested to appeal to the football Club for assistance m keeping the grounds in order. It was agreed to hand over the proceeds of the Nightcaps-Ohai match .to the Domain Board. As the exact location of the playing ground for the c.ub was in douot, Messrs Cameron, J. Wilson and V. Robertshaw were appointed to.meet the grounds commit lee of the Domain Board for the purpose of laying off a permanent ground so that it could be sown down in grass. It was decided to send , two teams to Riverton on Saturday, September 6, to compete in the seven-a-side tournament. Arrangements were made for lhe forthcoming annual ball on the 19th inst. The weekly series of euchre tournaments was continued by the Tennis Club on Tuesday evening in the Public Hall, there being an attendance of 37 players. The ladies first prize was awarded to Mrs J. Mills and the men’s to Mr R. Craig. Consolation prizes were won by Mrs Marsh and Mr J. Craig. On Thursday evening the players, who were -12 in number, played Five Hundred instead of Whist. The first, prizes were won, by Mrs H. Marsh and Mr T. Luke, junr., and consolation prizes were awarded to Airs J. Sayers and Mr J. E. Thomson. A social evening was held in the Public Hall on Monday by the members of the Presbyterian Bible Class. There was a verylarge attendance. The programme consisted of games, competitions, songs, etc. Air W. Welsh (secretary) had the arrangements working smoothly.
