NEW FASHIONS

LONGER FROCKS FAVOURED. GOOD FOR TEXTILE TRADE. (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) (Rec. 11.10 p.m.) London, September 2. The fashions exhibition at Olympia is a place of pilgrimage for English women, whether they are buyers for trade or society leaders. Coming modes are displayed by some of the cleverest and most charming mannequins in the world. Puff sleeves of Queen Alexandra’s age are revived for afternoon and evening wear, but shaping round the hips tends to emphasize the slenderness of modern women. For morning wear skirts reach the curve of the leg and as the day goes on lengthen until they touch the ground. After dinner they even have trains. Skirts for day wear, however, are never beyond ankle length. Tiers of frills give an old world air to many evening frocks, but more sophisticated designs are tucked or swathed with embroidery in order to emphasize the all important waist and hip lines. On the whole the new designs require a great deal more material, which also promises well for the textile trade.
