BALFOUR NOTES

The third annual pound afternoon in aid of the Victoria Home, Invercargill was held in the Presbyterian Church. There was a large attendance of members and friends of the W.C.T.U., also Mrs Fairbairn (president of the Victoria Home committee). Miss Birss(social worker) and Sister Janet. All were cordially welcomed by the president, Mrs D. McDonald. The meeting opened with praise and Scripture reading by Mrs Fairburn and prayer by Sister Janet. Owing to colds the musical programme had to be dispensed with. A recitation was given by Mrs R. J. Stewart and a reading by Mrs William Orr. Mrs McDonald introduced the principal speaker, Mrs Fairburn, who gave a very fine address on the social work of the home which was listened to with great interest. Mrs Fairburn thanked the ladies on behalf of the Home Committee for their generous support and kindness, and paid a warm tribute to Miss Birss tor her kindness in motoring the party to Balfour and willing help in the work of the committee. Mrs Church thanked the speakers and all who had helped to make the meeting a success.
