VICAR WANTS A BATH
WATER FAMINE IN PARISH. The parish of Middleton-by-Wirksworth, Derbyshire, was almost waterless a few weeks ago, and now —in consequence of the water famine —it is vicarless. The last vicar, the Rev. C. J. Cottle, accepted a living at Leeds. The Rev. F. H. Harwood, of Askham Richard, Yorkshire, was appointed to succeed him, but he withdrew his acceptance owing to the lack of water in the parish. “There is enough water to drink,” Mr Harwood says, “but a bath is out of the question, and the prospect for the summer is bad.” He said he would not feel justified in compelling his household to live under
