REPRESENTATIVE TRIALS. POSSIBLES DEFEAT PROBABLES. The competition for the McDonald Cup was suspended on Saturday when the match Possibles 'v. Probables took place. From the players taking part the team to play against the Otago eleven on the King’s Birthday will be chosen. The weather militated against a good display of bootball, being cold and showery. The play was ragged till towards the finish of the game when it opened out and became more free. During the game the players were constantly shifted from one position to another and after the Possibles had amassed a large score the teams changed goal-keepers. Rigby, the Probables goal-keeper was shifted up to outside-right and Radford went back to goal. Possibles 8 v. Probables I. The teams lined out as follows: — Possibles (Blue): Greenfield (Central); Maxwell (Rangers) ; P. Anderson (Central); McMurdo (Corinthians, capt.), Wylie (Central), Bishop (Central); Campbell (Corinthians), Paul (Rangers), J. Morrison (Corinthians), Devon (Corinthians), Butler (Central). Probables (Black and White): Rigby (Rangers); Officer (Central), Glass (Central) ; L. Robinson (Rangers), Batchelor (Rangers), Williamson (Rangers, Capt.); Radford (Rangers), Randall (Central), Williams (Rangers), Kean (Central), Rowland (Central). Shortly after the commencement of the game, the Possibles attacked but Rigby cleared easily. The next attack by the Possibles ended in a goal-kick. Rowland initiated a rush for the Probables but it was stopped and play shifted to the other side of the field where McMurdo started an attack on the Probables’ goal. The attack died out. ing. Owing to injury Devon was forced to retire. Play was of a scrappy nature and not exciting. Probables made a fast attack and Williams carried on to be stopped by Maxwell. For the next few minutes play livened up and some fast exchanges were made. Neither side, however, was predominant. A free shot at goal by the Possibles went over the cross-bar. Possibles attacked and from a scramble in front of the goal-mouth, Morrison goaled. Possibles 2 Probables 0 Possibles again attacked and from an easy position, Morrison goaled. . Possibles - • ■ 3 Probables 0 After play had' centred around the halfway line for some time. Possibles made another attack and Morrison goaled. Possibles .. 4 Probables 0 Half-tune sounded shortly afterwards. After,the commencement of the second half, several changes in the positions of the teams were made. Possibles took up the attack again and McMurdo goaled. Possibles 5 Probables 0 Possibles kept up the attack constantly and after a rush, Radford, who had been shifted into goal for the Probables, was caught well out of position and Campbell goaled. Possibles 6 Probables 0 After a short while the Blues again took up the attack and Campbell goaled at short range. Possibles 7 Probables 0 At this stage the teams changed goalies. Afterwards the Probables attacked strongly and from a difficult angle Rowland goaled. Possibles ■ .. 7 Probables 1 At this stage play opened up more and became more exciting. Suddenly Possibles commenced a fast passing rush and Morrison put through a shot that left Greenfield standing. Possibles 8 Probables 1 No-side sounded shortly afterwards. Mr. J.
