. THE NEW LEADER SIR JOSEPH WARD’S CONGRATULATIONS GOOD WISHES FOR SUCCESS (Per United Frees Association.) Wellington, May 22. Sir Joseph Ward has sent the following telegram to the Hon. G. W. Forbes: “I was very pleased to hear of your selection as successor to me as leader of the United Party, and I desire to congratulate you very’ heartily on your appointment. I have the utmost confidence in your capacity to discharge the duties and responsibilities of the position and with the loyal co-operation and assistance which will be accorded to you by the members of the party, I feel sure the principles and ideals for which the party stands will be in safe-keeping. I extend, to you my very good wishes for a successful and useful tenure of office in your leadership of the party. Kindest regards.” THE FARMERS’ UNION CONGRATULATIONS TO HON. G. W. FORBES. Wanganui, May 22. On the motion of Mr C. C. Jackson, the chairman, the interprovincial conference of the Farmers’ Union which commenced today- decided to telegraph its congratulations to the Hon. G. W. Forbes on his elevation to the ' position of Prime Minister. The chairman said it was a position of which any. New Zealand-born man might be jmoud. PARLIAMENT TO MEET ON JUNE 26. Wellington, May 22. The Deputy-Premier, Hon. G. W. Forbes, announced definitely to-day that Parliament will meet on Thursday, June 26. This is the usual time for the commencement of the session. A CRITICAL SESSION MR. H. E. HOLLAND’S VIEWS. EARLY ELECTION FORESHADOWED. New Plymouth, May 22. “The coming session of Parliament should be full of interest and there was every possibility, if not probability of a general election at the end of this year or at the beginning of next,” said Mr H. E. Holland in an address to-night. “The United Party, which had followed too closely in the footsteps of the disastrous Reform Party, could not possibly carry on after the end of the present Parliament. Labour was the only party in the House which had consistently’ increased its membership. The organization would be ready for an election at the end of next year.”
