STEWART ISLAND NOTES

(From Our. Correspondent.) .On Friday last a very successful dance was held in the Public Hall by the Norwegians from the whaling base in Paterson Inlet, all the residents of Stewart Island being'invited. The occasion marked the annual holiday observed by all the Norwegians as the anniversary of the day on which they broke away from Sweden and became a separate nation. The hall was beautifully decorated, and was filled to capacity. During the evening a display of fireworks on the beach was witnessed by a large gathering. Mr R. Hicks, chairman of the County Council, thanked the Norwegians for their kindness and generosity in providing the residents with one of the best evenings they had ever enjoyed on the island. :
