THE UNEMPLOYED
NOISY DEMONSTRATION AT AUCKLAND.

Auckland, May 1
When a deputation of 200 unemployed made a noisy demonstration at. the Town Hall to-day demanding that the whole of them should be heard and not merely the executive the police cleared the corridor at the request of the Mayor, Mr George Baildon. The men left the building grumbling noisily, but offered no resistance to the two constables who had been summoned to maintain order.
DEPUTATION TO MINISTER
WORK PROMISED IN THE COUNTRY
Auckland, May 1
The unemployed who formed a deputation to the Mayor to-day were later met by the Minister of Health, the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy. The Minister promised those who were willing to go to work in the country that they would have their opportunity shortly. The Minister said that an Unemployment Insurance Bill was in course of preparation and would be submitted to Parliament. Provision was made in the Bill for the borrowing of money to provide for the first year’s operations.

MINISTER’S UNDERTAKING
Wellington, May 1
When a deputation representing the unemployed who met yesterday, presented a number of requests to the Hen. H. Atmore, senior Minister in Wellington to-day, he gave an undertaking that 50 men would be placed immediately on road works in the Wairarapa district.
