ESCAPED FROM YARDS
1000 CATTLE LOOSE WORK OF VANDAL. (Per United Frees Association.) Gisborne, May 1. About 1000 cattle escaped from the Matawhero saleyards last night. Yesterday was the second day of the autumn cattle fair and over 3000 head were in the yards when the gates were chained and wired for the night. The main gate was opened, presumably by a vandal, allowing between £5OOO and £6OOO worth of cattle to scatter over the countryside.
