SHEEP DOG CLUB. . (From Oqr Correspondent). A' meeting of the Winton Sheep Dog Trials Club was held on Tuesday evening last. Mr G. King, president, was in the chair and the following members were present : Messrs A. Baird, J. Lilico, D. Larnach, J. McCallum, W. T. Moore, F. Moore, C. Hughes, J. R. Watt and the secretary Mr P. A. Blomfield. Mr John Brown (Winton) was again elected auditor and it was decided to approach Mr Kidd to act as judge’s assistant, the. position he filled at the last, annual trials. The secretary.reported that Mr T. Prcndegast had again consented to act as judge and Mr J. Scott informed him that he would bo able to supply sheep for the forthcoming trials. After a lengthy discussion it was decided to hold the trials on May 7 and 8. • Bicycle Race.
On Wednesday the final cycle race for the year was held and although the entries were not as large as usual, the race proved very interesting. As darkness set in very early, time permitted only one race to be run. The course was the same as last week, starting at«Dr Gow's corner to the Power Station, covering the factory block twice and finishing in front of the Post Office. The end of the first round saw Cosgrove and Poole (2 min) together, about a length ahead of E.' Souness (limit) with Moore and Chilton (1 min) about threequarters of a minute back with McDougall (45 sec) well back. At the finishing tape P. Cosgrove won by two lengths from I. Poole with D. Moore three lengths away third. About 200 spectators were present. The results are as follows: Ten mile race. First .£1 15/-, second 12/6, third 7/6. Seven entries: P. Cosgrov- (2min) 1, I. Poole, Drummond, (2min) 2, D. Moore (Imin) 3. Also started: R. Souness (scr), I. McDougall (45sec), A. C. Hilton (Imin) E. Souness (3min). Time, 27 min-35 sec. Tennis. Two matches for the men’s singles championship were plaved on YVednesday afternoon. O. A. B. Smith had a very close contest with C. Barham and managed to defeat him 6—4, 6—3, while W. Brandford defeated A. Watson 6 —3, o—l. The following team will represent the Winton Club in its match with Central at Invercargill on Saturday: Misses Humphries and M. Watson, Mesdaines W. Brandford and Martin, and Messrs G. Lindsay, C. Barham, W. Henderson and C. D. Mason. The team to represent Winton in the Central competition against Limehills B at Winton on Saturday is: Mrs O. D. Jamieson, Misses L. Hamilton, M. Balch and M. Young, and Messrs B. Rutledge, 11. Perrelle, J. Perrelle and J. Raymond.
