A NARROW ESCAPE
FAMILY TRAPPED IN BURNING BUILDING. (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, January 28. A narrow escape from being trapped iu a blazing house was the experience of Mrs H. J. Newton and her two children when their home at 57 Mary street, Papanui, caught fire early this morning. Mrs Newton was awakened to find the bedroom full of smoke and darts of flames. She had just time to bring Mr Newton from his bedroom in a bach a few yards from the house to rescue the children before the whole house burst into flames. The occupants escaped in their night clothes. Nothing was saved. Mr Newton had his hair singed in rescuing the children.
