CHARGE OF ATTEMPTED MURDER. (Per United Pross Association.) Te Kuiti, January 28. In connection, with the shooting affair at Paoruho between Piopio and Mahoenui yesterday, when a Native, Kone Tairama, allegedly made an attempt on the life of a half-caste youth, Time Ahurangi, otherwise known as Jimmy Davidson, by shooting with a rifle, a court was held last night at Te Kuiti Hospital, where Tairama was charged with attempted murder. .Ahurangi stated that the pair had had words a few days prior to the shooting, when witness had suggested that a horse, an old one, should be given a spell. Accused replied that it was no affair, of witness’s and the pair then parted. Later in the same day, accused had taken witness’s tobacco. When witness went to accused and felt the latter’s pockets for the missing property, accused became angry and said: “I will shoot your brains out.” Two days later witness was returning to his own home where accused also lived, and accused met witness at the door with a gun. Witness said, “Cut it out,” grabbed the barrel and the weapon discharged. No other evidence was taken. Accused was remanded to appear at To Kuiti on February 3. The injured man’s condition is serious. Accused is his uncle.
