SYDNEY REGATTA

A BRILLIANT SCENE. (Rec. 12.25 a.m.) Sydney, January 27. The main attraction at the anniversary regatta in Sydney Harbour to-day was a sailing race described as the “All Yachts Race,” which was won by the Bona from Uniekah 11. Vanessa, winner of the Sayonara Cup recently, was fourth but defeated the Victorian challenger Acrospire by over five minutes. The eighteen footers’ race was won by Mississippi with Arakoon second. The Peninsular liner Maloja was the flagship on which were the Governor-General, Lord Stonehaven, the Premier, Mr Bavin, and other prominent men whose speeches all referred with regret to the impending departure of Lord Stonehaven, whose term is expiring.

The harbour presented a fine sight, the ships being dressed in bunting. Scores of yachts competed in the various races.
