BOWLS

HOKONUI v. EDENDALE. A CLOSE CONTEST. The three-rink match between Hokonui B and Edendale was played on the Hokonui green on Tuesday evening, and a most exciting game was won by the home team by one point. The visitors led in points during the greater part of the game. Irvine (Edendale) scored two fives and two threes during his game against Leishman, but Barnett scored a seven against Marshall (Edendale), which helped to even matters. When the last bowl of the match was to be played the game stood even, and Leishman played a running shot and ran out the Edendale skip’s shot, to leave Hokonui lying one up and winning the game. The following were the scores:—

H. E. Milne, McFarlane, Scott, Thompson 25 — Lumsden, Watters, McPherson, Papps — 14 Wallis, Vernon, Smith, Irishman 16 — Gilligan, Hawthorne, Chaplin, Irvine — 20 Yates, Tait, Crawford, Barnett 17 — Stark, Lawrence, Hickey, Marshall — 23 Totals 58 57
